Inspiring Conversations with Matt Tanneberg of Body Check Chiropractic & Sports Rehabilitation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Tanneberg.

Matt, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Becoming a health care professional has been a calling for me since I was young. The first major driving force to health care was losing my mom to her battle with malignant melanoma; watching her go through her fight with cancer motivated me and fueled my desire to help people when they’re struggling.

I played hockey, baseball, football and golf growing up and also coached hockey and baseball at a high level. Dealing with my own injuries through my athletic career, as well as seeing my players go through the ups and downs of their injuries, was the other catalyst that pushed me towards a career in health care.

I did my undergrad in Wisconsin where I played NCAA hockey and baseball. I then went to Chiropractic school in Northern California and have been down here in beautiful Scottsdale for over a decade. My wife is my high school sweetheart and the love of my life; we’ve been married for just about nine years and together for almost nineteen years.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting my own practice was a huge leap at a time when other similar businesses were failing on the backend of the Covid-19 pandemic. No road is ever smooth, if it is… then you just haven’t hit the bumpy parts yet. Finding your way through and over those obstacles that life puts in your way is where true growth comes from.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I hang my license as a Chiropractor along with being a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) but my studies, post graduate training and interests parallel to physical therapy, rehabilitation, massage therapy and stretch therapy. My treatment sessions are a combination of all of the above, helping people to move better and feel better. I use a personalized approach to address each individual’s unique needs and concerns. Each patient is given an individualized care plan specific to their needs, helping them to alleviate their pain and get back to doing what they love. All treatment visits are scheduled by appointment only and are one-on-one with me, never getting passed off to an assistant or technician.

I have worked with elite athletes across all sports from the NFL, MLB, NHL, golfers on the PGA tour, tennis players on the ATP tour, NCAA D1 All-Americans and National champions, Olympians in numerous sports and CrossFit Games individual and team qualifiers.

I was named Best Chiropractor by Phoenix Magazine’s Best of the Valley in ’19, ’20 and ’25, by AZ Central’s Best of our Desert in ’21 and ’25 and by AZ Foothills’ Best of our Valley in ’23.

I have been featured in, written articles for or quoted in: Men’s Health, Women’s Health, Men’s Fitness, Men’s Journal, GQ, Shape, CBS Sports, NBC News, Fox News, Yahoo News, USA Today, CNN, Insider, People, Forbes, Nike, Livestrong, FitBit, Runner’s World, Bicycling, Outside Online, USA Football, Eat This Not That, Stack, Accuweather, MD Monthly, Prevention, The Huffington Post, Reader’s Digest, Homes and Gardens, National Enquirer, Chiropractic Economics, as well as five published books.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The food scene is my favorite part of the valley. It is already fantastic but it seems like there is a new restaurant popping up every week. One of my wife and I’s favorite hobbies is going out to dinner and having new experiences together.

Shortly after moving to the valley, I was told: “you will never get used to the heat”. I strongly disagree and feel like I am much more accustomed to it than I was a decade ago. However, that late summer heat is still brutal and definitely my least favorite part of living here.
